Backward Regions Grant Fund

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Govt. of India has agreed to cover the implementation of Backward Regions Grant Fund in 3(three) Hill Districts of Manipur viz., (i) Chandel (ii) Churachandpur and (iii) Tamenglong from the year2007-08. The Department of Rural Development has been nominated as nodal Department of the Scheme.

And BRGF consists of two funding windows as below:-

1.Capacity building fund - @ Rs. 1.00 crore per district per annum. Developmental Grant Fund.
2. As per guidelines, a High Powered Committee headed by the Chief Secretary has been constituted to consider and approve the plans submitted by the District Planning and Implementation Committees on 23- 10-2007.
3. The Govt. of India has allocated a sum of Rs.42.04 crores under the scheme for the year 2007-08. Also a sum of Rs. 30.00 lakhs @ Rs.10.00 lakhs per district was released in advance for preparation of 5(five) years Districts Perspective Development Plan.
4. The identified 3(three) Districts have submitted District Annual Plan under BRGF (Development Grant) for the year 2007-08 and approved by the State High Powered Committee in its meeting held on 11-02-2008.
5. Against the proposals the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Govt. of India has approved the projects of the above three Districts and sanctioned/released the following amounts for implementation of the scheme during 2007-08 as below:-
