PRADHAN MANTRI GRAM SADAK YOJANA
In Manipur, P.M.G.S.Y. is implemented through a registered body called the Manipur State
Rural Road Development Agency (MSRRDA), Imphal working under the Department of Rural Development
and Panchayati Raj. The Agency undertakes to construct rural roads in Manipur under PMGSY through
Bharat Nirman. 6 (six) Working Divisions of PWD (Manipur) have now been placed at the disposal of
the MSRRDA as P.I.Us. exclusively for implementation of PMGSY schemes.
PMGSY started in the year 2000-01 by converting 637 works (570 road works and 67 bridge works)
taken up under BMS (Basic Minimum Services) as PMGSY Phase-I connecting 31 habitations for which
a sum of Rs.40.00 crores was allocated. And under PMGSY Phase-II, a road length of 729.916 km.
covering 130 roads had been completed with an approved cost of Rs.80.72 crores.
PMGSY Phase-III,IV,V, have been clubbed as Phase-V at an approved cost of Rs.152.33 crores under which 47 new roads and 11 existing roads having a total road length of 556.16 Km. (new roads length = 455.80 Km and existing roads length = 100.36 Km) are being covered during the current year, 2007-08 for giving connectivity to 93 habitations by the new roads and benefiting 48 habitations by upgradation of existing 11 roads under Bharat Nirman Scheme. Tender for 58 packages/works have already been accepted and awarded. The district wise roads to be covered under PMGSY (Bharat Nirman) Phase-V and sanctioned costs of the works are as under :
